![]() ![]() In any regard the description would be inaccurate except for part of the full description "As armies developed and tactics became more complex, peltasts were expected to take part in hand-to-hand combat: with such expectation they were given stiffened linen cuirasses and short swords. Resulting in Agema eventually developing a similar connotation to 'vanguard'. Resulting in Royal Peltasts and Shield Bearers technically being representations of the same same unit, but Royal Peltasts representing the elite Agema. ![]() I was under the impression that Peltast simply meant someone that used a pelte (although generally implying light infantry) and the Antigonid army just called their Hypaspists 'Peltasts' for some reason. As you can imagine, skirmisher is a more modern word. Peltast in the greek had the same connotation and meaning as promachoi, meaning 'front rankers', or 'vanguard'. The description of the royal peltasts is accurate, they are technically skirmishers but were never really deployed as such. Is there a way to make royal peltasts go into range mode? Is it supposed to be this way? In my campaign as Macedon the best range unit i can make are light peltasts, but ive noticed other countries have more heavily armored peltasts.
